Raphael Tordjman is a cognitive neuroscientist, published researcher, and the founder of NeuroHaven, a neuroscience based brain performance practice dedicated to helping people better understand and train the systems involved in focus, stress regulation, sleep, recovery, emotional balance, and performance.

His academic and research training began at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he conducted undergraduate research in psychology and behavioral neuroscience. At UCLA, Raphael worked within the research environment of the Staglin Center for Brain and Behavioral Health and contributed to research examining stress, fear learning, trauma related behavior, and the mechanisms involved in posttraumatic stress.

He later continued his graduate training at Florida International University, completing master’s level training and pursuing doctoral studies in psychology and neuroscience. This academic path provided him with experience in scientific research, experimental design, behavioral neuroscience, data interpretation, and the study of how stress and experience shape brain function and behavior.

Peer-reviewed research

Raphael is a coauthor of the peer reviewed scientific article, “Isolation of the differential effects of chronic and acute stress in a manner that is not confounded by stress severity,” published in Neurobiology of Stress in 2024.

The research examined how acute and chronic stress can produce different effects on fear learning and stress related behavior while controlling for the total amount of stress exposure. The findings suggested that chronic stress may engage additional mechanisms associated with generalized fear and the strengthening of later fear learning. Raphael contributed to the investigation and to the review and editing of the scientific manuscript.

This research foundation now informs his work at NeuroHaven.

Raphael integrates quantitative EEG brain mapping, neurofeedback, cognitive assessment, and other brain performance technologies to develop personalized training programs. His approach begins with assessment rather than assumption. He examines objective brain data alongside each client’s history, goals, habits, symptoms, and lived experience before determining which training methods may be appropriate.

Rather than relying on a standardized protocol, Raphael personally interprets brain mapping findings, selects training protocols, monitors the client’s response, and adjusts the program over time. His work is centered on understanding the individual brain rather than applying the same intervention to every person.

Raphael works with entrepreneurs, executives, professionals, athletes, students, families, and individuals seeking to improve attention, sleep, resilience, recovery, emotional regulation, and cognitive performance. He also works with people experiencing challenges related to stress, anxiety, attention difficulties, cognitive fatigue, brain fog, and performance under pressure.

His scientific background shapes the philosophy behind NeuroHaven. He believes neuroscience should be rigorous, understandable, and practical. Brain data can provide meaningful insight, but it must be interpreted carefully and considered alongside the person’s broader experience.

Raphael does not present neuroscience as magic or promise instant transformation. His work follows a structured process: assess the brain, identify meaningful patterns, select the appropriate tools, measure progress, and continually refine the training experience.
